The drama is an official adaptation of the popular modern romance web novel 《候冬症》 (Hou Dong Zheng) written by the author Lü Ganlan (绿橄榄). The original book was serialized on the popular Chinese literature platform Douban Read (豆瓣阅读) starting in mid-2025, where it gained significant traction for its "broken mirror mended" (破镜重圆) and age-gap tropes before its short-form drama adaptation rights were sold.
At the start of a new semester in the History Department at Peking University, Liang Ludong loses a game of Truth or Dare and is challenged to send a message to a boy in her major saying, "I want to sleep with you."
